Kitchen Cabinet, Interior Wall & Trim Paint Color Scheme Ideas for Older Kitchens in Newbury Park, CA

Kitchen Cabinet, Interior Wall & Trim Paint Color Scheme Ideas for Older Kitchens in Newbury Park, CA

You see the signs of an old kitchen everywhere. You can see grease and grime from the years of cooking. If you’re seeing your kitchens age, maybe it’s time to revive it. One of the cheapest and quickest ways to bring your kitchen to life with a fresh clean look is to repaint. However coordinating the kitchen’s new color can be difficult, with all the different colors from cabinets, appliances, furniture, and other features. Picking the right color scheme can be taxing. McKay’s Painting will share some ideas to help give your kitchen a vibrant, youthful look.

Choosing Paint Colors for White, Oak & Dark Color Cabinets

Before you pick out your new color, you must first do a review of your current colors on all cabinets, appliances, and furniture that is in your kitchen. It would be ideal to have new appliances and furniture to design around your kitchen’s new color. However it’s not the most financially feasible thing to do for most people. As you make note of the color of the fixtures, look at your window and the trim color. You may want to keep it or you may want to repaint to match your new color scheme. Also take a look at the color of the finish on your cabinets and other woodwork in your kitchen.

History of Kitchen Wall Colors

When you’re deciding on your new colors, you will want to complement the existing colors of your furnishings. First it was very common for kitchens to have an off-white color for the main walls. Later it was found to be boring and it showed the grease and grime of the kitchen much easier. This made kitchens look and feel dirty and boring. This is something that you will want to avoid. It became increasingly more popular to paint kitchens in purples, greens and yellows. If you have a lot of white from cabinets, furniture or appliances, it is recommended you have more colorful walls as a contrast to plain colors of the other furnishings.

Best Paint Colors for Kitchen Baseboard, Door Frames & Trim

Use proper but contrasting colors for trims on windows and door frames. You do want to find a balance between the intense colors of the walls and your trim. Try to step away from the traditional off-white and try good contrasting colors for your trim. Also keep in mind a paint swatch may look good when you’re looking at it from a smaller perspective. However covering a whole kitchen or even the trim work may not be quite as you imagine. Sometimes what looks good on the swatch can be quite overwhelming once it covers your walls.

Use Contrasting Paint Colors that Look Good Together

It has become a science to find the right complementary color. A good rule of thumb is to choose the color’s opposites; such as reds and green work together. Purples and yellows or blues with oranges are great contrasting colors that complement each other with the proper tones.

Popular Bathroom Paint Color Trends for Small Bathrooms in Ventura, CA & Importance of Paint Preparation & Finish

Popular Bathroom Paint Color Trends for Small Bathrooms in Ventura, CA & Importance of Paint Preparation & Finish

Your bathroom can be a relaxing retreat. If yours isn’t feeling that way, you can change it. Remodeling the whole bathroom can cost a lot of money. But a coat or two of paint can go a long way to giving you the bathroom makeover you desire! Consider the style and atmosphere you want to create along with the size and space too. Some great color combinations can create the look you want.

How to Choose Paint Colors for Your Bathroom & Home Interior

Using lighter paint colors can open up a smaller space while darker paint colors can add intimacy and the right color combinations can create a feeling of relaxation. There are ways to use paint effectively to provide a perfect space to wind down after a long day. Use shades of green to provide feelings of the outdoors. Adding white and touches of wood can make the shade of green you choose pop. If you’re an outdoor lover, then green might be the color for you. Blue shades can also provide feelings of nature as some shades can be reminiscent of the sky with cream-colored accents. There are other options besides nature-themes. Your bathroom can be transformed into a relaxing environment with a shade of lavender that can feel feminine without being too girly and gray is very popular right now. With so many shades to choose from, gray makes a space feel sophisticated and relaxing.

Paint Preparation Process & Selection of Paint Finish

1. Paint Finish. Finishes in the bathroom should be satin or semi-gloss as these finishes are easiest to clean and are formulated to stand up great to stains. Semi-gloss paint reflects light, imperfections can be highlighted and the finish can become dull when scrubbed. If you see lots of scrubbing in the future, then you might want to go with satin finish instead.
2. Mildew Resistant Paints. Bathrooms are exposed to moisture and high humidity and take a lot of abuse with the constant steam from showers and baths. Humidity levels are always fluctuating so make sure your paint can stand up to the challenge.
3. Wash the Walls. Mildew is present whether you see it or not and will bleed through the new paint or prevent it from adhering correctly. Use a solution of one part bleach to three parts water and a sponge. Rinse well with clean water and make sure the walls are totally dry before you paint.
4. Use Self-Priming Paint. This means you don’t have to apply separate coats of primer and paint!
5. Paint Preparation Work. Bathrooms are full of nooks and crannies, making them harder to paint. Use painters tape around any edges of areas you don’t want paint on. Sash brushes have a tapered tip and are better to use than a flat brush as they are easier to control too.
6. Let Paint Dry. Bathrooms need to be given 24 hours to dry before using the shower, regardless of what the manufacturer claims. Less than that and you may have paint that becomes soft and runs. Your goal is to have an even sheen without signs of overlap or shadows on the finished walls.

Interior Paint & Wallpaper Accent Feature Wall Design Ideas in the Same Room of Your Agoura Hills, CA Home

Interior Paint & Wallpaper Accent Feature Wall Design Ideas in the Same Room of Your Agoura Hills, CA Home

There are many types of styles that people choose to decorate their homes. The range is huge and some of them are simple and clean while others can be eclectic. No matter what your style is you still want to be up on the latest trends and greatest ideas for design. One of the hottest trends over the last few years has been to use wallpaper on the walls to add style. Wallpaper used to be thought of as old and out of style. The large yellow flowers in your grandma’s kitchen are a thing of the past. The latest wallpaper designs are a huge hit and can even look and feel modern. Not only has there been updated patterns and scenery in wallpaper but you can also choose texture as well. You can use wallpaper on your walls in your home but if you are concerned about using it in an entire room you can add some paint too. There are some great ways to use wallpaper with paint and make it look amazing.

McKay’s Painting Lists Ways You Can Use Paint & Wallpaper in One Room

Use Wallpaper as an Accent Feature Wall: People are under that assumption that an accent feature wall is a secondary paint color. They use that secondary color on one wall and there you have an accent wall. The accent wall is to draw your eye to that area of the room and it can be done with wallpaper as well. Choose a wall in the home that you want to be the main focal point and have wallpaper installed on that wall. The other walls in the room can be painted a color that will match and compliment the colors in the wallpaper. If you use a more aggressive look of wallpaper you can use a lighter or mellower color of paint.
Chair Rails Are a Great Divider: Some rooms have been designed with a chair rail. This is a piece of molding such like baseboard or crown molding that is placed about two or three feet up the wall. The horizontal line runs around the perimeter of the room. It is supposed to be a spot that a chair that is pulled out will hit. The chair rail is a great way to divide the wallpaper from the paint. You can have wallpaper hung above the line and a paint color done on the bottom half. If you do not have a chair rail set up already in your home you can still have one installed. When you call to have your paint and wallpaper done you can let them know that you also want to have a chair rail put up.
Choose the Right Pairing of Wallpaper & Paint: When you are pairing your paint and wallpaper options you want to take some time to consider it. Wallpaper comes in many styles now so take time to decide if you want a texture, geometric shape or flower design on your wall. You can hire a professional that can give you advice on what goes well together.
